The latest from acclaimed director Shunji Iwai (ALL ABOUT LILY CHOU-CHOU, HANA & ALICE), A BRIDE FOR RIP VAN WINKLE is an ethereal tale of life, love, and loneliness in modern Japan.
20-something Nanami (Haru Kuroki, THE LITTLE HOUSE, THE CASE OF HANA & ALICE) is just floating through life when she meets and marries Tetsuya. With almost no family to speak of she turns to an online contact, the enigmatic Amuro (Go Ayano, TWISTED JUSTICE - HIFF 2016), to help her ‘fill seats’ at her wedding. But shortly after, things begin to fall apart. Her husband becomes suspicious of her, and she thinks he may be cheating. Again seeking help from Amuro, the situation goes from bad to worse.
As things come to a head, Amuro gets her a job as a housekeeper with an elusive girl named Mashiro (singer Cocco) in an old mansion. Though the circumstances seem strange, Nanami and Mashiro become fast friends. However, Nanami soon realizes that Amuro, Mashiro, and the mansion, aren’t what they seem.
