HIFF is proud to be a part of the revitalization of Kaka‘ako. In collaboration with Kamehameha Schools,  Our Kaka'ako and Street Grindz (the organizers behind the mega-popular Eat the Street), this special "pop-up" in Kaka'ako Makai Gateway Park will resurrect a world inspired by the genius of Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki and his dream factory, Studio Ghibli. Join us for a night of film and fun for the whole family. With your favorite food trucks on hand, bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the magic of Miyazaki while picnicking on the grass, under the stars. Kids and Cosplay fans: show up as your favorite Miyazaki film characters and win prizes, too!

As part of HIFF’s Ghibli retrospective, we’ll present a special outdoor screening of the animated feature SPIRITED AWAY (also screening at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18.) It's about a ten-year-old girl named Chihiro, trapped with her parent in a magical, forbidden realm. She must find the courage and resolve to help them all escape.

Kaka'ako Makai Gateway Park is located directly across from UH Burns School of Medicine, on Ilalo Street between Cooke and Ohe. Admission is FREE. Come, be a part of the revitalization Our Kaka‘ako!
