Elementary school student Jun-ho always places fourth in swimming competitions. While this doesn’t really bother Jun-ho, his mother Jung-ae (Lee Hang-na, THE ATTORNEY) is obsessed with his swimming career and sees swimming as his ticket into college. Kwang-soo (Park Hae-joo, THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE) is a disgraced former professional swimmer who almost made it big, now coaching young swimmers part-time.

Desperate for a win, Jung-ae reaches out to a fellow swim-mom who has a secret weapon for success. It turns out that secret is Kwang-soo. While at first Kwang-soo seems like the solution to her problem, when bruises start to appear on Jun-ho’s body, the whole family must question how far is too far.

This intense drama from director Jung Ji-woo (EUNGYO), is both an examination of the costs of parental pressure and winning above all else, and a meditation on our modern competition-based culture. An eye-opening and beautiful film, FOURTH PLACE premiered at the Busan Film Festival and has since played to great acclaim across the Festival circuit.
