A travelogue and musical journey deep into the swamps of the Louisiana bayou, the juke joints of the Mississippi Delta, and the moonshine-soaked barbecues of the North Mississippi Hill Country, I AM THE BLUES is a moving tribute to Delta blues. The film visits musicians rooted in the genre's heyday, many in their 80s, still living in the American Deep South and touring the Chitlin' Circuit — A touring circuit comprised of special bars where blacks weren’t troubled by segregation laws, and where the musicians were usually compensated with a meal or, at the most, a few dollars.

Packed with a wealth of front-porch performances as virtuosic and passionate as they were generations ago, this richly textured documentary shows how deeply the blues is ingrained in Southern culture. Witness Bobby Rush, Barbara Lynn, Henry Gray, Carol Fran, Lazy Lester, Bilbo Walker, RL Boyce, Jimmy ’Duck’ Holmes, Lil Buck Sinegal, LC Ulmer share their memories, play jam sessions (including a thrilling slice of boogie-woogie piano by 90-year-old Henry Gray) and go about their daily lives, fishing for lobster, barbecuing, playing on the veranda and visiting old friends from the music scene. Let them awaken the blues in all of us – before it’s too late.
