Australian Idol winner Stan Walker plays Turei, a young man from rural Pukekohe who works diligently on his family's potato farm. Although he respects his family's Maori traditions and humble way of life, Turei also harbors a secret desire to become a professional musician and make a name for his band, Small Axe, which consist of his brother Hone (Troy Kingi) and best friends Reggie and Pou (David Wikaira-Paul and Darcey-Ray Flavell-Hudson). When an opportunity arises for him and his mates to become the support act for Bob Marley's 1979 tour to Aotearoa, he has one shot to make it happen. However, his dreams lie in direct opposition to his father's values with which he grew up. Will Turei find a way to honor his dad, a hardworking man steeped in the old ways, without giving up on his dreams?

MT. ZION was written and directed by Tearepa Kahi and features original music inspired by the spirit of Bob Marley. The heartwarming family film also stars HIFF fan-favorite Temuera Morrison (FRESH MEAT [HIFF 2012], ONCE WERE WARRIORS).
