Roman and Lucy are two troubled souls who live in a small town in the frozen Arctic. They keep each other warm through a mutually beneficial relationship but things come to a head when Lucy (Tatiana Maslany, ORPHAN BLACK) gets a scholarship to a university down south and threatens to leave Roman (Dane DeHaan, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES).
This surreal Canadian indie-drama written and directed by Kim Nguyen (Academy Award-nominated REBELLE: WAR WITCH) is an emotional journey through an unforgiving landscape. While Lucy was born into this outpost at the end of the world, Roman chose to come here after leaving his abusive father, and the rest of the world, behind. The trauma of their pasts is what binds these updated Romeo-and-Juliet lovers together, and Lucy’s own ghosts are literally haunting her. This is around the time that Roman realizes that he can speak with bears…
Part road movie by snowmobile, part magical realism, this haunting psychological portrait of two people on the edge could be a cult-classic in the making.
