YES, WE’RE OPEN is director Richard Wong’s (COLMA: THE MUSICAL, HIFF 2006) sexy and smartly penned comedy that centers on Luke (Parry Shen) and Sylvia (Lynn Chen), an Asian-American couple who fancy themselves progressive, and follows their attempts to have a sexually open relationship. When they encounter Elena (Sheetal Sheth) and Ronald (Kerry McCrohan), a swinging couple with a truly devil-may-care attitude toward sex, they’re forced to reevaluate their feelings about love and casual hookups. Set against the backdrop of the San Francisco Bay Area, this is Wong’s fourth feature film collaboration with writer H.P. Mendoza (FRUIT FLY, HIFF 2009). According to the filmmakers, this is a prime example of the spirit of independent filmmaking as it was made possible through the support and generosity of family, friends and local patrons, as well as a successful Kickstarter campaign that helped to raise post-production funding in just 10 days!
